How much does COBRA cost?

COBRA costs up to 102% of the full monthly premium, which is your share plus what your employer paid. If you paid $150 a month and your employer paid $550, COBRA is up to $714 a month.

COBRA monthly = (employee share + employer share) × 1.02 (× 1.50 in disability extension months 19–29)

  • W-2 box 12, code DD shows the total yearly cost of employer coverage.
  • Your benefits portal or HR. The COBRA election notice lists the exact rate.
